The Community of Madrid will migrate the entire technological infrastructure of the EducaMadrid platform to the regional Data Processing Center (CPD) of the autonomous administration this summer. This operation, managed by the Consejería de Digitalización, aims to unify the educational server with other regional systems, promoting a more secure, stable, and efficient model.
The Minister of Digitalization, Miguel López-Valverde, highlighted that this action consolidates the regional Executive's commitment to high-capacity digital infrastructures. The region currently has 40 operational data centers, totaling 260 megawatts (MW) of installed power, with an additional 15 projects under construction or expansion.
This growth, according to López-Valverde, strengthens Madrid's position as a major technological hub in Europe and a strategic enclave for the data economy, Artificial Intelligence, and advanced digital services.
The migration is a technically complex operation due to the large volume of information, applications, and services involved. Previous work included software updates, network reconfiguration, data replication, equipment preparation, and contingency protocol coordination to ensure its success.
The new data center offers higher levels of certification, security, and energy efficiency. It will facilitate coordinated management of communications, backups, and technological capacity, while also strengthening protection against cyberattacks and service continuity.
This initiative is part of an educational platform modernization contract with a budget of 3.9 million euros until July 2028. The unification is expected to save the regional administration an estimated 650,000 euros annually by avoiding redundancies.
To minimize impact, the main phase of the transfer is scheduled during school holidays. The migration and system verification are expected to take at least one week. The platform is anticipated to be fully operational by August 13. The regional government has informed the managing bodies and the educational community in advance.
EducaMadrid serves over one million accounts of teachers and students in publicly funded schools. It offers tools such as virtual classrooms, corporate email, cloud storage, audiovisual content, web spaces, and user management systems, based on technological sovereignty and data protection principles.
