The initiative, to be presented this Thursday during the State of the Region Debate, will allocate more than 1.7 million euros to promote high-level sports. According to the regional government, this plan will benefit approximately 600,000 residents.
The main objective of this strategy is to strengthen federated and high-performance activity, as well as to provide support to sports clubs. The measure also aims to respond to the growing public interest in physical activity and to consolidate Madrid's position as a host for significant international sporting events.
Currently, 75% of Madrid's population engages in regular physical activity, exceeding the national average of 63%. The primary motivation for 72% of those who exercise at least once a week is bodily, mental, and emotional well-being, ahead of simply staying in shape.
The trend in sports participation is also reflected in competitions. Participation has increased from 23% to 30% since 2025, and federative licenses have grown by 4% in the region, compared to 1.5% nationally. This progress is particularly notable among people with disabilities, with a 17% increase.
