The Madrid City Council has taken a crucial step for the urban development of the former military facilities of Campamento with the approval of the Compensation Board's constitution. This area, located in the Latina district, plans for a total of 10,700 homes, of which 65% (7,000 units) will be subject to some form of public protection.
Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz urged the Ministry of Housing to expedite the urbanization procedures, emphasizing that the City Council has made an "extraordinary effort" to accelerate processes. "Now it depends on them," stated Sanz, who highlighted that the City Council "has performed excellently" on its part.
The entity Casa 47 will be responsible for carrying out the urbanization works and subsequent construction of the homes. The project covers an area of over 2.1 million square meters and will be managed through the compensation system.
Of the total homes, 3,800 will be for Limited Price Public Housing (VPPL), 2,100 Basic Public Housing (VPPB), and 1,100 will be allocated for rental. The area also includes 93,340 square meters for commercial uses and 59,048 square meters for offices.
Sanz argued that this development will allow for an unprecedented "land release" in the city, facilitating the construction of new homes. The land's planning dates back to the General Urban Planning Plan of 1997, with subsequent revisions in 2009 and 2013.
The initiative for urban management was approved by the municipal plenary in September 2024, presented by the Public Business Entity for Land Sepes. The deed of constitution for the Compensation Board was formalized on April 16.
