The Escena Escorial festival hosts an innovative staging of Bizet's opera Carmen this weekend, presenting a semi-staged version that relocates the story to the world of social media. Titled @Carmen, the reel story, the production will premiere on Saturday at the Teatro Auditorio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, performed by the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM), under the stage direction of Bárbara Lluch and musical direction of Alondra de la Parra. Mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez will portray Carmen, accompanied by Arturo Chacón and Gianluca Margheri.
The Teatros del Canal of the Community of Madrid continues with Los locos de Valencia, a new interpretation of Lope de Vega's comedy, adapted by José Luis Alonso de Santos and directed by Pepa Pedroche. The play, featuring twelve performers, creates a dialogue between the Golden Age tradition and contemporary stage languages.
