This initiative is part of the regional government's aid program for the 2024/25 academic year, which funds the opening of schools before classes begin and during the Christmas and Easter holiday periods.
The Madrid Executive collaborates with the local councils, which own the public centers for Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP), Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education (CEIPSO), and Grouped Rural Schools (CRA), where the activities they organize take place.
The Community of Madrid also offers extracurricular activities on school days, including support sessions, guided study, reinforcement, languages, sports, and various artistic tasks. Additionally, the Open Courtyards program allows children to use the sports facilities and libraries of the centers in the afternoon.
The regional government has allocated 4.8 million euros in grants to the 179 municipalities to fund these activities. The councils apply for the subsidies, select the type of extracurricular activities to be offered, and decide on which non-school periods to open their centers.
