The Royal Botanical Garden (RJB) celebrates its anniversary next Saturday, October 17th, marking 271 years since its foundation in 1755. To commemorate this occasion, the research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) will offer free entry throughout Friday, October 16th.
Additionally, on Friday, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, RJB-CSIC staff from various units and departments will be available to visitors to explain their work, answer questions, and share stories and interesting facts about the institution. This outreach initiative is being repeated due to its success last year.
The director of the RJB-CSIC, María-Paz Martín, who will also participate, stated that this activity is a token of appreciation for regular and occasional visitors.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see the first signs of autumn in the garden, admire the collection of dahlias, and explore the four art and science exhibitions open to the public in the Villanueva Pavilion, Cavanilles Chair, and Mª Teresa Telleria Hall.
As part of the celebration, a raffle will be held on the RJB's Instagram channel for 5 copies of its 2027 calendar, dedicated to the botanical expedition of José Celestino Mutis. To participate, users must like the post, tag a friend, and comment. Entries are open until Friday, October 23rd.
The Society of Friends of the Royal Botanical Garden (SARJB) will also host an information booth at the entrance on Friday, October 16th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, to explain how to become a member and the benefits offered.
