The Severo Ochoa University Hospital in Leganés has completed a comprehensive renovation of its obstetric unit, backed by over 400,000 euros in regional investment, to optimize care and working conditions.

The Severo Ochoa University Hospital, located in Leganés, has finished the complete overhaul of its obstetric unit. The regional government's investment, exceeding 400,000 euros, has modernized facilities and reorganized care pathways. The aim is to improve care for mothers, newborns, and families, as well as the working conditions for healthcare professionals.
Since March, the hospital features a new 53-square-meter operating room, double the size of the previous one, equipped with cutting-edge technology. This expansion facilitates coordinated work among the Obstetrics, Anesthesia, and Neonatology teams and allows for a companion's presence during childbirth.
The new operating room includes space for a neonatal resuscitation cot near the mother, enabling initial newborn care within the operating room itself. This measure promotes early contact and reinforces the humanization model of birth assistance.
The renovated surgical area boasts an independent, state-of-the-art climate control system with high-efficiency filters (retaining at least 99.97% of airborne particles), pressure control, a new electrical system with an isolation transformer, optimal lighting, and a medical gas network and anesthesia column.
Antibacterial continuous wall and floor coverings, automatic sliding doors, and a renewed water supply network have also been installed.
The new obstetric unit also includes a recovery room with a toilet and shower, preparation areas for professionals, storage, a dirty utility room, and direct connection to the Sterilization Service.
These actions enhance clinical safety, improve working conditions for professionals, and adapt facilities to current obstetric surgical activity needs. They facilitate the care of both scheduled and emergency cesarean sections and contribute to comprehensive care for mothers, newborns, and companions in a more comfortable and secure environment.
The renovation of the operating room in the public hospital complex in Leganés is part of the hospital's infrastructure modernization process and reinforces its commitment to increasingly safe, technologically advanced, and people-centered care.
