The mobile classroom, officially launched in September 2025, has traveled across the city to raise awareness among primary school children about the personal, social, and environmental advantages of using public transport. The primary goal is to familiarize minors with the urban bus as a safe, practical, and sustainable option for getting around Madrid.
Throughout the past academic year, the Educabús made 236 visits to educational centers. There, EMT Madrid staff provided training on how to navigate an urban bus safely and confidently, from validating a transport ticket to offering a seat to other passengers, promoting autonomy and respect.
The initiative, which also targets educational teams and families, aims to instill sustainable mobility habits from an early age. The success of this first year has led to considerations for equipping a second bus-classroom to meet the high demand from Madrid schools, which continue to show strong interest.
The project emphasizes the importance of teaching children to move autonomously and sustainably in an increasingly urbanized environment. The age group of 6 to 12 years is crucial for consolidating habits that will accompany schoolchildren into adulthood.
Practical skills developed include correctly validating transport passes, safety measures when boarding and alighting, identifying bus stops and destinations, reading maps and schedules, and route planning. The Educabús fosters independence, self-esteem, and a sense of responsibility.
As part of the Children's Day celebration in the Tetuán district on May 24th, the Educabús was present on Bravo Murillo street, providing information to 1,200 visitors, including families, parent associations, and teachers.
