The incident occurred shortly before 3:00 PM at the intersection of San Mateo Street and Santa Águeda Street. Medical and police personnel responded to the scene after receiving a report of a man injured by a knife. Upon arrival, paramedics found the victim in cardiorespiratory arrest and, after 40 minutes of resuscitation efforts, could only confirm his death, according to Emergencias Madrid.
The Violent Crimes Unit of the National Police was involved, while the Homicide Unit VI has taken charge of the investigation. Sources close to the case suggest it could be related to a fight or settling of scores between two homeless individuals who apparently knew each other.
Following the incident, officers from the Operational Response Group (GOR) of the National Police and the Local Police of Pozuelo de Alarcón arrested the alleged perpetrator of the fatal stabbing in that town around 7:00 PM.
Police sources indicated that the detainee is the same individual who, in early May, stabbed a national police officer off-duty 17 times in Puente de Vallecas while the officer was attempting to mediate a dispute in a bar. After being arrested for homicide, the detainee has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
