The Sol station of Cercanías Madrid will be closed this weekend, and several others, due to tunnel improvement works.

The central Sol station, a key hub for lines C-3, C-4a, and C-4b of Cercanías Madrid, will suspend its service this Saturday and Sunday. The interruption is due to scheduled improvement works in the tunnel that runs through the station.
As a direct consequence of these works, usual routes will be modified. Trains on line C-3 originating from Aranjuez will terminate their journey at Atocha. Meanwhile, trains on line C-4 from Colmenar Viejo and Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes will end their service at Nuevos Ministerios. Additionally, trains on the C-4 line coming from Parla will also conclude their route at Atocha.
To facilitate travel for affected passengers between Nuevos Ministerios and Atocha, using lines C-2, C-7, C-8, and C-10 is recommended. These lines run through the Recoletos tunnel and stop at that station, offering an alternative route.
Renfe has announced that announcements will be made via public address systems, and station staff will inform users of lines C-3 and C-4 about available alternatives to continue their journey.
This temporary closure of the Sol station will be repeated on the weekends of May 23-24 and May 30-31. Furthermore, it will extend to two other weekends in June: June 13-14 and June 20-21. However, the station will remain operational from June 6 to June 9, coinciding with the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Madrid, to facilitate mobility given the expected increase in attendance.
According to Renfe, these interventions aim to optimize the capacity of lines C-3 and C-4 that pass through the Sol tunnel. These works are part of a broader improvement plan for line C-5.
