The Collado Villalba City Council has launched «Educación Vial Seniors», a pioneering project in the Community of Madrid to promote safe mobility and autonomy for seniors, in collaboration with the company Avanza.

This innovative program is an evolution of the successful project aimed at schoolchildren and now extends its focus to one of society's priority groups. The objective is to foster road safety education, responsible use of public transport, and safe mobility among the elderly.
The initiative is based on three fundamental pillars: promoting autonomy and sustainability through public transport, enhancing safety and onboard behavior, and recognizing the role of seniors as "Educator Grandparents", transmitting good coexistence habits to younger generations.
The project's presentation took place at the Peñalba Cultural Center and was attended by various authorities, including the mayoress of Collado Villalba, representatives from the Regional Transport Consortium of the Community of Madrid, and executives from Avanza.
The mayoress highlighted the importance of intergenerational road safety education and pointed out the need to improve safety at pedestrian crossings, a problem affecting all of Spain.
Pablo Rodríguez Sardinero, Director General of the Madrid Transport Consortium, noted that 1.3 million people over 65 in the region have a free transport pass and emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration.
Óscar Álvarez, Director General for the Elderly and Dependency Care of the Community of Madrid, stressed how training and information enable seniors to actively participate in social life, in a region with high-quality transport.
Carmen Fúnez, national deputy and head of Social Policy for the People's Party, recalled Spain's growing elderly population and the need to adapt towns and cities to be more welcoming, promoting personal autonomy and guaranteeing rights.
