Inma Sanz, deputy mayor of Madrid, has highlighted that both the city's firefighters and Samur-Civil Protection personnel have expressed their willingness to deploy to the areas affected by the earthquake in Colombia. However, she specified that at "this initial moment," the South American country has not requested this type of assistance for rescue and search operations.
Sanz explained that other countries, geographically closer, have already offered their support. She recalled that Madrid's personnel have prior experience in disaster response, such as their involvement in reconstruction efforts in Venezuela. "We also have very experienced logisticians in these types of situations, also collaborating with the United Nations, and of course our medical staff, always through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation," she added.
The deputy mayor emphasized that the Madrid City Council is "available for anything that may be needed from Madrid." "We have always shown our solidarity, and even more so in this case, once again, with a sister nation with whom we share so much," she stated.
Sanz also addressed the situation of the thousands of Colombians living in Madrid, who are "suffering" and "having a very difficult time" due to the uncertainty about their relatives' well-being, as many have not yet been able to contact them.
Therefore, she expressed the municipal government's support for both "Colombians who are in Madrid" and "all those families in Colombia who are suffering."
