Arganda del Rey launched in December a new day hospital dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 18 with severe mental disorders, strengthening the healthcare network of the Community of Madrid.

The center, which has already been visited by the Minister of Health, Fátima Matute, becomes the nineteenth day hospital of its kind in the region. This resource will serve the 21 municipalities affiliated with the Hospital del Sureste, an area with 215,000 inhabitants, of whom 23% are minors.
The multidisciplinary professional team consists of a psychiatrist, two clinical psychologists, two specialist nurses, an occupational therapist, two teachers, and an educational coordinator. Their work focuses on specialized care and the development of therapeutic programs tailored to patients' needs.
The Community of Madrid has prioritized humanization in the design of the facilities, incorporating contributions from patients themselves in the creation of artistic works and decorative elements. The multipurpose rooms, separable by mobile panels, will allow for group activities, psychotherapy sessions, and workshops.
The center also features specific rooms for Nursing and Occupational Therapy, an educational classroom, a quiet therapeutic zone, and a gymnasium for psychomotor activities. The care model is based on intensive outpatient, flexible, and individualized treatment, with attendance ranging from one to five days per week.
Currently, the day hospital serves 20 patients per day, with an average stay of six months. Since its opening, 11 young people are undergoing active treatment, four are in the evaluation process, and two have already been discharged.
