The Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, has presented an ambitious urban improvement plan valued at 75 million euros, but the appearance shifted to political criticism towards PSOE, Más Madrid, and Vox.

The municipal appearance, initially conceived as a showcase of urban management under the ‘Alcalá Mejora sus Barrios’ program, progressively transformed into a political debate stage. Mayor Judith Piquet, after detailing executed, ongoing, and future actions, directed direct criticism at the municipal groups PSOE, Más Madrid, and VOX for rejecting the economic proposal in the last Plenary session, a move that jeopardizes the funding of strategic projects.
The event, which aimed to quantify the urban transformation with a total investment close to 75 million euros during the term, began with the intervention of the Urban Planning councilor, Cristina Alcañiz. She presented the scope of the program and a video showcasing the main actions aimed at improving residents' quality of life through pavement renewal, elimination of architectural barriers, creation of green spaces, and infrastructure modernization.
Judith Piquet defined the plan as «the most significant urban regeneration and transformation program undertaken in our city in recent decades», emphasizing the criteria of mobility, accessibility, safety, and sustainability. Completed actions such as the transformation of Avenida de Guadalajara, the parking lots of Nuestra Señora de Belén and Luis Vives, and works on streets like Santander and Ronda Fiscal were reviewed. Less visible but priority investments, such as the renovation of the Villamalea collector, were also defended.
Currently, over thirty actions are being executed or will begin shortly in all districts, including collector renovations, works in Daoíz y Velarde, Paseo del Val, Aguadores, and the remodeling of sidewalks on Madre de Dios street to improve accessibility for an aging population. The mayor highlighted that many of these interventions respond to historical neighborhood demands.
The turning point came when addressing pending projects, such as the remodeling of the Reyes Católicos and Paseo de los Curas area, and the future GAL footbridge. Piquet stated that, despite being drafted, their execution depends on funding, blocked by the rejection from PSOE, Más Madrid, and VOX. «They will have to explain to the residents... why they are preventing the development of these indispensable improvements», she affirmed, with the mention of VOX, a partner in the local government, being particularly noteworthy.
The mayor concluded by reaffirming the Executive's commitment to seeking funding to move forward with the projects, representing an investment exceeding 50 million euros, and reiterated the vision of a city «more connected, safe, accessible, clean, and equipped with ample green and recreational areas».
