Alcalá de Henares will host The Night of Heritage 2026, joining 14 other Spanish cities declared World Heritage Sites. The event, taking place on Saturday, September 12th, aims to bring historical and cultural heritage closer to citizens through the extraordinary opening of its halls.
The Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid (MARPA), located in the historic center, will be open free of charge until midnight. Visitors can enjoy its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, including the show Sabre-toothed Cats, dedicated to the great predators of the Pleistocene, and 25 years of restorations at MARPA: Glass.
The museum's permanent exhibition, which traces the region's history from its origins to the Modern Age, will also be available. Highlights include the Emiliano Aguirre Paleontology Hall, featuring fossils found in the Community of Madrid, and the Garden of Antiquities in the courtyard of the former convent, which houses mosaics from the ancient Roman city of Complutum.
Meanwhile, the Birthplace Museum of Cervantes will offer theatrical guided tours under the slogan Of whose name I do want to be remembered, to introduce characters from the writer's works. There will be three sessions on Saturday, September 12th, at 12:30 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM, each lasting approximately one hour. The house will also be open uninterruptedly throughout the day and until midnight.
Both activities at the Birthplace Museum of Cervantes are free, although the theatrical tours have limited capacity.
