After eighteen months of works and a millionaire investment, the Justo Gómez Salto Sports Center in San Fernando de Henares reopens its doors this Saturday, September 26th. The celebration, starting at 10 AM, will feature an extensive program of over 40 events, with special prominence for local sports clubs.
The day will include tournaments, league matches, exhibitions, and masterclasses. Sports entities will be recognized in a parade at 6 PM in the Justo Gómez Salto Pavilion. Later, at 7 PM, a veteran basketball match will be played between Real Madrid and Estudiantes, commemorating the opening match of the facilities in September 1992.
Women's World Cup champion Claudia Zornoza will participate with several activities, including a fun gymkhana starting at 10:30 AM. Music will be provided by Los 40 Session from 10 PM in front of the main entrance. Attendees will receive a gift, and inflatable castles and games will be available for children.
Mayor Javier Corpa highlighted the importance of these facilities, frequented annually by thousands of residents. The renovation involved a significant investment, partly funded by the Central Government (50% of damages), while the Community of Madrid has not contributed financially, a fact the mayor lamented.
Reconstruction works began in April following the heavy rains of March 2025 that flooded the sports center, causing severe damage to courts, fields, and electrical and hydraulic systems. Progressive reopening started in October 2025 with the heated pool and multipurpose room, and will be completed with the summer pool in June 2026.
