The intervention aims to continue the remodeling of Plaza de San Lucas, creating a pedestrian connection between the Estación neighborhood and the Historic Center. The Eras de San Isidro street, heavily used by residents and tourists, currently shows significant deterioration.
The Councilor for Public Works and Urban Maintenance, Antonio Saldaña, noted that the street has 'narrow sidewalks and poor pavement conditions,' along with a roadway suffering from 'significant structural deficiencies.' The comprehensive project seeks to improve the 'urban quality, accessibility, and safety' of the area.
Key works include the complete renewal of the road and sidewalk pavement, enhanced pedestrian accessibility with wider and safer routes, reallocation of street space with new parking areas and signage, and the adaptation of urban elements like street furniture and drains. Universal accessibility will be prioritized through tactile paving and color differentiation.
These improvements will extend in the coming weeks with interventions on Ribera, Murillo, and Manuel Azaña streets, also located in the San Isidro neighborhood.
Due to the construction, traffic will be diverted via alternative, well-signposted routes. Local Police recommend planning travel, respecting temporary signage, and exercising extreme caution in the affected area.
